The Madame Pele Two & Half Gram Gold Piedfort is part of the Royal Hawaiian Mint's fortieth anniversary commemorative three piece Hawaiian Mint Denomination Set minted with the original dies and issued in 2014.
The obverse features Madame Pele who is Hawaii’s Volcano Goddess and resides in Kilauea in the world's most active volcano and Mauna Loa, the world's largest volcano.
The reverse features Volcano Island Bank and AU2-1/2GR (two and half grams of gold) inner die reverse dated 1977. Both dies are unique as they were hand engraved at the actual 21mm die size and minted on special copper piedforts that are extra thick planchets.
