Ho’olako! To all who lived in Hawaii and to those who have never visited – we are enriched for Hawaii is enriching! 1987 was the Year of the Hawaiian. The year to "Celebrate and commemorate the Hawaiian culture.” The 1987 Ho'olako Dala was designated "The Official Coin" by Tommy Kaulukukui and the Ho'olako Committee. The design is an exciting example of contemporary Hawaiian art that symbolizes the birth of Hawaii - Born of Wakea (Sky) and Papa (Earth) the design was created by noted artist Ms. Momi Cazimero. Since only a few collectors were able to get the “Kamehameha the Great” obverse design in 1986, it was fittingly chosen as the obverse for the 1987 Ho’olako Dala - Year of the Hawaiian. The First 1000 Silver Ho’olako Dalas were numbered and were reserved exclusively for MintLine collectors at the original issue price of $29 each. A few Gold Ho'olako Dalas were numbered and presented in handcrafted Koa wood cases with a Certificate of Authentic for $995.00. And a miniature 17mm 18 karat Gold Ho’olako Dala with King Kalakaua or Queen Liliuokalani obverse was also available as a jewelry pendant for $139. RE: MINTLINE MAY 1987 RE: MINTLINE OCTOBER 1987
