In 1993, the Mint jokingly pointed out that the U.S. Mint was its biggest competitor and since they don't have to pay taxes, rent, etc. they make more "money" than it did! But Hawaii had the Aloha spirit, beaches, great weather, and now, Aloha Money! Royal Hawaiian Mint "Hawaiianized" genuine US coins into Aloha Money by counterstamping everyday change with special ALOHA MONEY die on the obverse and the name of the coin on the reverse. It was a crazy idea that many people enjoyed and collected. All legal to own.
Obverse: Eisenhower, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, date, counter stamped with 1mm "ALOHA MONEY" obverse Reverse: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM, Liberty Bell, counter stamped with 10mm "ROYAL HAWAIIAN MINT, DOLLAR" reverse Packaged in tamper proof holder and black coin box with original "Aloha Money" certificate .
