In 1993, the Mint jokingly pointed out that the U.S. Mint was its biggest competitor and since they don't have to pay taxes, rent, etc. they make more "money" than it did! But Hawaii had the Aloha spirit, beaches, great weather, and now, Aloha Money! Royal Hawaiian Mint "Hawaiianized" genuine US coins into Aloha Money by counterstamping everyday change with special ALOHA MONEY die on the obverse and the name of the coin on the reverse. It was a crazy idea that many people enjoyed and collected. All legal to own.
Obverse: Kennedy, LIBERTY, IN GOLD WE TRUST, date, with 10mm counter stamp "ALOHA MONEY" obverse Reverse: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM, great seal of the U.S., with 10mm counter stamp 'ROYAL HAWAIIAN MINT HALF DOLLAR" reverse Packaged in tamper proof holder and black coin box with original "Aloha Money" certificate .
